Elizabeth “Liz” Lorbeer is the founding Library Director at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, a new medical school in the U.S. to be granted preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee of Medical Education. Lorbeer is the chief designer of the new digital library built from the ground up in under eight months. Her career spans twenty years as a librarian and library administrator. She previously held positions at Boston University, Rush University Medical Center, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She holds master’s degrees in library science and higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree in history. She is the principal investigator for three National Network of Libraries of Medicine Express Library Digitization Award grants and the recipient of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries Leadership Scholarship. She speaks and publishes on topics such as digital scholarship, collection management and publisher-vendor-library relationships. Liz is the Chair of the Department of the Medical Library and holds the rank of Associate Professor. She is a distinguished member of The Academy of Health Information Professionals
