DT10: NISO Open Discovery Initiative and Summon Content Strategy

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The NISO Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) group started its work in early 2012 to define best practices for the new generation of library discovery services such as ProQuest’s Summon. As Discovery Systems become more embedded in the fabric of libraries, it is vital that vendors be as transparent as possible—to both libraries and content providers—as to how their systems allow content to be discovered and analytics about what content has been discovered.

In this session, Steve Guttman will provide both an update to ProQuest’s compliance with NISO ODI, as well as insight into some of the important aspects of Discovery that ODI doesn’t (yet) address. ProQuest is a firm believer in “Democratic Discovery,” and ensures that content from all vendors has an equal opportunity to be discovered and viewed. Michelle D’Couto will provide an update on Summon content: what’s in the index, how fast is it growing, what new vendors have contributed to the index, and, what is the ProQuest’s content strategy moving forward.
