DT03: Discovering Discovery: Peking University's Journey and Beyond

This session begins with an overview of the Chinese academic library’s general situation and a briefing of Peking University and its libraries. Then, the presentation will share Peking University’s experience as the first user of Summon in China with a special focus on the issues faced by a Chinese academic library including: metadata coverage of Chinese content, Chinese MARC (CNMARC) mapping and loading, RTA (Real Time Availability) for ILS, refinement for local digital content, and Chinese searching and interface. The presentation will then cover the pros and cons summarized from a user survey, faculty feedback, and usage statistics. She will also share thoughts and raise questions on what will be beyond discovery in a rapidly changing technological environment.
